ENB has dedicated our cause to protecting and preserving the Western Sound, and that mission cannot be accomplished with only on-the-water actions. With a watershed that stretches up into northern Vermont, the Sound is susceptible to water quality impairment from dumping that occurs over a wide inland area. We believe that educational outreach is an important way to stop chemicals and pollutants from entering the Sound. That is why we work with schools and volunteers to mark storm drains, and also to education children and adults through the Clean Water Garden Program at the Terry Backer Memorial Garden in Stratford, CT.
ENB’s Clean Water Garden Program is also working with area schools to develop outdoor learning programs that teach organic food growing. Programs include learning gardens and raised beds where only organic methods are used, growing local food that is good for the environment and the health of our children.
